A flag for Bankside
Flag design commissioned by NB Studio and Borough Market to celebrate the 'Independent Spirit of Bankside'. To answer the brief, with a nod to Borough Market, I used the idea of throwing food as a form of protest and designed a chucked tomato as a dynamic symbol of rebelliousness. The green calyx of the tomato is a star, evocative of revolutionary symbolism and flag graphics. The design also incorporates Bankside's pink colour along one edge to imply the location of the tomato-throwing culprit. Forty five flags by London designers were displayed in Borough Market during the London Design Festival. The flags were then auctioned in aid of local community charities.
